ca. 1850 farmhouse upstate NY
Hi; I'm a new member. I bought this house 5 years ago, and my plans to rescue it may start to come to fruition this year. As you can see from pics it has had just about every form of "improvement" done to it over the years. The good thing is it is a good, straight timber frame house. Some handhewn timbers but most of it is sawn. It's also good that there is very little in it I have to worry about saving! I hope to reconstruct the inset front porch and put double-hung windows back in for starters. The house is kind of small, so I'm working on design of an addition right now, with plans to start attacking some of the renovations this summer. Glad to find an active community of like-minded people!

That house has a strong personality. I also love the outside space around it. Stay motivated and make it shine.

Seabornman, welcome to The District. Hand hewn wood, beams by chance? I bet there is a jewel in the rough hiding under all those updates.

Welcome! There's lots of Greek Revival farmhouses in upstate NY - and it looks like that might be what was going on with your place originally. Google images for ideas. That style was wildly popular in that region, and spills over into place names: Syracuse, Troy, Ithaca...etc.

Welcome Seabornman!
Your farmhouse has great bones. Uncovering the history and hidden stories is half the fun. I look forward to the many photos, as you progress with bringing back the original beauty.
