In early 2001 I started refinishing my various windows used in the construction of our 1927 Craftsman type home modeled after a Sears plan. The 'V-Seal' tape worked very well as long as it was never exposed to sunlight, which killed it pretty quickly and eventually caused 3M to take it off the market. Has anything like it been introduced since?

Spring bronze weatherstripping is made in a similar profile. More expensive than an adhesive product, but it will last a lifetime.

any plastic or vinyl v strip I see that is installed is cracked and flaking...I don't see it in stores these days....then again, I don't go looking for it...

Frost-king or whatever was still selling it as far as I remember.
Upside is it's so cheap that you can redo it as needed. Only the sides with sun exposure go bad. There are actually polymers that would hold up to UV better, or they could add some white lead to the mix, right?

Casey,
Thank you! Looking at your link I remember the packaging that I bought some of this many years ago and it's in the garage, so I'll go through my boxes of 'window stuff' and give it a try. The 3M V-Seal on the north windows have worked great and still do, but those subjected to sunlight need replacing.
Too bad 3M and/or Frost-King never updated these products, as they certainly have worked well these past 17 years, on my 1860's 6-over-6 double hung windows after I refurbished them shown here http://bit.ly/1jlOuep .
