I got some new paint stripper samples from the local safety/mold/asbestos/lead supply company (Jendco for any Columbus, Ohio folks). I am testing out the following products from Fiberlock:
Piranha 4 - a gell formula that is supposed good for historically significant components because it doesn't not darken the wood. It's the most expensive at $335.21/ 5 gallon
Piranha Nexstrip Pro - $295.00/ 5 gallon
Piranha Nexstrip 8 - $119.95/ 5 gallon. So far this cheapest one seems to be doing the best job on the stubborn pain in my kitchen. I'll report back after I try a larger area.
(I just realized I should have put this in the Craftsman's guild, Mick. Sorry! Can we move it?)

depending where you use it you can also try to add a little lacquer thinner. sometimes its a cheaper way. it might not have quite the bubbling up action but it is pretty powerful for dissolving. also puts off more fumes.
