1862 Greek Revival Farmhouse in Michigan

Post by oaktree »

I just bought this 1862 farmhouse on 5 acres in July, and I'm hoping to move in soon:

This is my second time renovating a house, but this one is much older than my first one, a 50s tract house on the West Coast.

Big progress on renovations this week, and I will add more pictures soon. Maybe some before and after pictures too.

The latest is that my chimney is completely repaired:

Today my original floors are getting sanded, and I'm quite excited to see how they turn out.

I like the new forum...it is faster and the interface is cleaner.

What a pretty place! I almost bet that that two-panel door on your smoke house was once in the big house-Usually the outbuildings had board doors and the better millwork went into the house.

Wow, I never realized that about the milk house door! You might be right, and that is good to know when I go looking for antique doors for the house.

The floors in two of my rooms were sanded yesterday, and I can't believe how good they look!

Still to come are all the very wide plank floors in the other rooms. I had no idea that I had any wood floors when I bought the house...I'm quite happy!

Also, my place was originally an apple orchard, and there's hundreds of apples growing out in my woods. I wonder if the apple trees are the same ones that grew when the house was built!

Do you have plans to restore the orchard - i.e. clear the woods around the trees and prune them back down?

Thanks, Mick!

I think I will try to prune the trees and clear another trail in addition to the one in the pictures. The projects are endless...next year!
