We have a wild apple that tastes good, well, I'm pretty sure it is wild - its tall and spindly and no other apples around. So of course you can get them. I didnt realize this either, and was told a few years ago, it makes sense that the apple seeds are carrying different genes to their parent. What it also means is that every single tree of a given variety, say McIntosh, is actually the very same tree that grew on a certain Mr. McIntosh's farm all those years ago - how cool is that?

Thanks, everyone! I didn't know all this about apple trees...it's very interesting! I hope they are good apples...if not, I think I have to plant some more.

I went to Materials Unlimited in Ypsilanti today and learned so much there about my house from an employee who is a preservationist. He said my house is a Greek Revival though the frieze is not as dramatic. I found out a lot about what was typical for a house like mine including doors, trims, shutters, colors, and even that hole in my floors upstairs. I'm quite excited, and they had great doors and lighting there. So far, it seems I'm generally on the right track with design choices.

Oaktree, good deal. Drop a little cash with them and continue the conversation. Good information is twice as valuable as most of your purchase. Stay on their good side and drop off a jug of your apple cider when ready.

Agreed! I bought a great light fixture there today, and I plan to return for some doors at least. It's a really cool place!

Oaktree to go over that great table? Now you'll have to post a pic of the lamp over at the antique shop, we are a nosy bunch.

For over my table I bought an inexpensive punched tin pendant...I'm now questioning this decision though I know it will look great. Maybe it is fine for now. I learned today that besides tin candle-type chandeliers anything colonial revival or 20s would be appropriate. My house would have likely been electrified in the 20s when a bathroom might have been installed.
I will definitely post lots of pictures!
