Thanks, folks for the nice words. Mick, we bought the wall paper on line from Wayfair.ca. We could not find any thing in the local store catalogues we both liked. This pattern, upper management liked and I could live with. Now that it's up I think it was the correct choice. Willa, why do we do it? The quick answer would be because we can. The real reason is that room was realy falling apart it just needed to be done. Lily, all the wood in this room was painted from day one, although white. At some point (I suspect about 1962) it was painted yellow. We liked the room the way it was so we just carried on with the yellow. The shade is a little lighter though, a historic colour, also the original was a high gloss, we replaced with a semi gloss.

All I did was a bit of surface prep and shellacked. Left most of the ware ant tear in the floor. All those deep s aches and bruises gives it a bit of patina, well OK a lot of patina..

That's it, move the furnature back in and hang the curtains. All our efforts can now go into the kitchen project.

Looks great! Our floors have a lot of "character" too.

Well, I got to leave something for the next care takers to do.

Oh, I was thinking of the variation with the knots was a neat thing. It was complimentary in intent. I can see how folks would see the knots as flaws, however.

This floor was originally painted. At some point, (probably 1962'ish ) it was sanded down and stained to what you see now. Saw no reason to redo.
