porch picket saga continues..

Post by phil »

I had set aside some full dimension lumber ( fir) to make pickets for my porch. I still have more to cut but I made about 60 posts all tapered 4 sides from 2" down to 1.5" I round cornered them all and sanded them on my table sander.. it was a lot of wood cutting. i cut all the tapers on my tablesaw..

I might need more but I decided that rather than resorting to math Ill just see how far I get ;) I will have enough for around the porch but there is also an adjacent railing..Ill get to it.

the existing had ugly pickets so the tapered ones should be better. I got most sanded and soaked them a day or two or some for a week in linseed and turps. Ill probably put some sikkens stain on them too.

I'm making a structure with a top and bottom rail top is 1.5" square bottom is 2" square to match the pickets. Ill put it together like a ladder then insert it. I decided I would also like to box in the 4x4 posts with some siding material so they will be tapered as well .. that will take more work ..
