Our guest room is finally done

Post by nhguy »

It's been a process to finish this space. I stripped the wallpaper a year ago after the wiring in the house was done, then I followed through with having the walls dense packed with cellulose. I'm so glad I only took the wallpaper off this room as it pushed the plaster out all over in this space. 200 plaster washers later and 150 lbs of lightweight Durabond, plus primer and paint and it's done. I pulled all the trim on the windows and sealed and insulated them too. My wife has to decide what artwork is going in this room next.

Looks great. The wall color really helps the rug border visually pop nicely too.

Well done.

I'm glad to see how you removed the trim and stripped it , it looks so much better not painted. Your walls look nice and flat too.

I pulled the window trim to be able to seal the openings around the windows with foam, then I stuffed rock wool in the spaces. I didn't strip the trim as some of the woodwork in the room has been changed. I had mentioned before about the house having been a Victorian until 1903 when it was changed into the Arts and Crafts bungalow it is today. We used the 20th century paint chart from California Paints. We picked two Arts and Crafts colors, the brown because it looks like wood of course. Most of the house has natural wood like the doors in this room. Thanks for the kind comments.

The warm coral shade on the walls is very pleasant.

From what I can see your walls look very smooth and flat, too. It is one of those afters, where it would be easy to think that you just changed the wall colour, no big deal. But we know what a lot of work that was. You did a great job.

Nhguy, very nice, very nice indeed. Now you are no longer sleeping in a construction zone. That is, in it self, very nice. Looking forward to the great work on your next project.

what kind of paint are you using? Ive been using the kitchen and bath throughout as I like the sheen. I know you have to be really fussy with the filling to get a sheen like that and for it to still look flat. It really looks great ! It's one of those jobs where the harder you work at it the less people notice, but we know!
