In keeping with Willa’s bearded iris theme.

While living in the nightmare apartment, I spotted someone giving away these iris on CL for $0.00. A friend let me plant them in his garden for safekeeping.

After I had this house, some of the divisions moved with me.

The color really amazes me. They are brown/beige/slightly purple and very fragrant. This year they seem happy where they are, with many more blooms to come. It was hard to get a good photo in the wind.

Sadly, my friend's clueless adult nephew hacked up his garden, so the rest are gone.

Our irises are basically done for the season, waiting for the Lillies to open next. The hydrangeas are starting to form.

Might be able to start picking some blueberries hopefully in 3 weeks or so, looks like a good amount of berries this year. This is a large 6 foot very old blueberry bush. I have two starter bushes in the ground two years now but they are struggling to survive. I don’t do much to help them.

I can never remember the proper name for the tree so I just call it a tulip tree.

It's a Northern Catalpa. I have the same one in my front yard, just starting to bloom.

I had no idea they could live so long !

Willa, thanks for the link. I’m sure the tree looks more spectacular from a distance were the whole tree can be viewed as one.
About five years ago we had an arborists give an assessment on nine large trees, it was his view that six were planted about the same time the home was built. Unfortunately three of the six old trees we far to close to our home for there size and they had to come down.

Every year I spot a praying mantis or two in the yard and they can be quite large. They tend to linger in the same spot for several days and don't scurry away when you get close. This morning, I saw this baby mantis hanging out in my perilla.
