Look at it this way. The refrigerator you got will likely last less than 10 years, sad to say. You can look at it as you bought yourself some time to find the "right" vintage fridge. When it comes along, sell this one on CL and get some of your money back.

I'm tempted and I'm a gazillion miles away

It's not very common to see the hydrator /vegetable bin /crisper drawers in the vintage refrigerators is it?

That glass thing under the freezer is either for food storage or catching water drips ? I don't know. It looks pretty nice. The lowest shelf is missing, though.

I would kill a newer fridge for parts to convert that thing. Love the "empire state" deco design.

I remember our Hotpoint from about that era; that was labeled "Meat Tray" and positioned in the coldest part of the fridge that doesn't (usually) freeze.

I think those first started to show up in the late '30s. By the late '40s/early '50s, most refrigerators had them.

What I meant was they are often missing in vintage refrigerators for sale today. I consider it a real bonus if they're present and, if there are enamel or glass containers included, you've hit the jackpot!

That's true, although it's something that I've never been able to figure out. It's not like they're small parts that are easily lost....

My guess is that, when the family stopped using the refrigerator, the bins became handy for other things and that's how the disconnect began.
