Wow, wood windows. I guess you are bound by the local board to do all correctly? I went with the Lowes vinyl reliabilts. We are just outside of the towns historic district, and although cool to be within those borders, we were on a tight budget, and not bound by the rules.

Thats a lot of tile!

Hi Nicholas, our architect originally spec'd wood clad windows which I guess are a combination of wood and vinyl. These were also approved by our Cultural Heritage Board. After approval it took us a year to actually start building and in that time I decided that I wanted wood windows. I'm glad I went with them as they look wonderful...but they weren't inexpensive. Our general contractor comments every time he's here (and looking at the windows) that he's happy we went with the wood.
I'm not a purist in terms of old house restoration...for example my newly refinished wood in my living and dining room has a final finish of a boiled linseed oil and polyurethane mixture (this wa a huge project that I've been working on since August 2013, and I'll finish it tomorrow..woo-hoo! Photos will be posted when I get back from a trip.) I see the addition as complementary to the rest of the house. I was picky about trim and getting the "right" look. At the same time the plan was to paint all the trim in the addition so we used mdf to save money.
I quit counting the days of work on the project when I went on vacation but it will be completed on Tuesday. Its wonderful to get them both done at the same time! Now I just have to change out the ugly 50s kitchen remuddle...but we'll let the dust settle first.
And that was a pretty long response...

Our addition has been done for a couple months now. It's been wonderful having the extra space and a second bathroom. Here are some photos.

Nlswitz, looks like it should just be there. " is that an addition?"..."I don't know, looks like was built with the house."
