Hello everyone! I've been stalking the site for about a week now, after receiving a recommendation elsewhere. I love all the houses I've seen so far.
My family just bought a house in Arkansas. This is the first old house I've owned. This house inspired me, as a kid, to get a drafting degree. I had always drove by and wondered at the size and details. I didn't know much about it, but it had enchanted me early on.
Since doing research I have found out that it was once owned by my great uncle. My dad's family lived in the top floor, while he was in junior high. My mom had her 16 & 21 birthday parties in the house. Her 21 was while pregnant with me!
The property has been occupied since 1836(the same year Arkansas became a state). Two of the former owners were acting governors for short periods. It was bought by the Cazorts in the late 1800's. The house was built on the same spot as the original 19th century home. This house was built in 1907. It has been in 2 legal battles. A man named Webb turned it into apartments in the first half of the '50s and local legend says it was a brothel at some point.
We recently had a cleaning day and this is how it began:

Re: Cazort House
We finished early, so I decided to tear out some drop-down ceiling and found a surprise:
Apparently, there were stairs in a different place. I assume they were moved during the 50's remodel. Also, there is evidence that the kitchen has been moved from the east side to the west.

Wow! Love the house...love the story...and love that you got the place after ogling over it as a youngster!
Like most old places, she has great bones & needs some work...but I know that you have visions in your mind of what this beauty will become.
Glad to see you came here! No one here will will ask "what the *bleep* were you thinking"?? We all have the same mindset!
Can't wait for more pics as your place progresses...

Re: Cazort House
Wow, great bones; they went all in with sheets of paneling, no? To cover water damage, or awful settling cracks, or just because they were dunces.
