Charles Anderson Home- 1895 Queen Anne

Post by dpkmpy8 »

Hey Folks,

Just migrated over from Old House Web. Seems to be the thing to do. Anyway, my wife and I are in the thick of restoring a lovely old queen Anne in Central Illinois. Thought I would share a picture or two.

A very nice home, lots of detail still on the old girl. Have you figured out the original colour combination yet. A home that fancy must have at least four different colours. It looks to be a frame home but the siding looks odd. I don' see and overlap on the boards.

Oh, and welcome to Wavyglass. Interior pics would be nice, I bet it has an interior grander than the exterior.

It is balloon framed with slate shingle looking fiber cement siding with a wavy edge. Unfortunately the clapboards and some pressed tin panels are gone. The downstairs is gutted mostly. Leaking roof caused most of the plaster to be ruined, and the roof repair revealed the need for some steel beams and posts from the foundation to the roof framing to keep her from falling in on herself. I'll get some additional pictures this weekend. We have owned her for three years, but have been in neutral with the renovations. Life just gets in the way. Got to pick up the pace!

Your home is beautiful and such nice details. Love the sleeping porch and turret.

Welcome from me, too.

It seems you are living there and restoring as you go. That will be a project house for many years to come and keep you as busy as you want to be. You will never run out of room, tho.

To bad about the interior, I certainly hope there was enough trim left to maintain the period wood work.
