Re: Never ending windows

Post by mattswabb »

Starting about a month early this year. I have 6 basement windows on the driveway side to do. I'll have to work around the weather and the early sunset.

On these I remove the entire window frame, restore it and install the frame. So most of the work can be done inside. I still have to strip the paint and glazing in the cold garage. Afterwards I'll install the security bars I made last year and the curtains.

I guess the basement windows will be a nice change from the larger double hungs--more manageable and the work goes more quickly...oh, and no ladders!

as always, impressed....

I'm doing 3 at a time. All had rot in sill, more than I can epoxy. 2 were really bad and I suspect the other 3 have rot as well. So for the first time I had replace wood.

Tomorrow I'll strip the paint and remove the glass.

Feels good to be back working on the windows again. I'll sure miss this when their done.

A little more work left of these 3 but I'll call them done anyways. Once the caulk is dried I'll paint the edges inside and out. I'll do that this week along with removing the next 3.

Here's 49, 50 and 51

And a side by side before and after.

I had a 4 days off this weekend so I got a bit done on the next 3 basement windows. All 3 needed new sills. Waiting on things to dry/cure and I should wrap these up this week/weekend.

These 3 (#52, 53 and 54) are done except for painting after caulk cures. I'm done with windows probably till May and the night time temps are higher so any drafts from my plywood covers won't freeze us out. The next 4 are in the living room and parlor.

Once again Matt, well done. At the pace your getting things done I'm beginning to think you are two people. I see you also found time to change out those cement stairs to th porch. That should realy help with damp issue in that corner.
