And meanwhile at work we're making brand-new construction look like it has been around for a while. This represents an exploded interior of an 1830s New Orleans home. There's a lovely custom-stained wooden floor under that layer of protective cardboard.

I need a pep talk, a hug and a beer.

Please tell me that the time I'm spending with my face behind the toilet is actually time well spent. This is the most beautiful weekend imaginable and I'm desperately trying to get the bathroom in some kind of decent shape, before a houseguest arrives tonight.

Here's a pep talk and a hug. I can't do anything about the beer, but you have a guest coming and you won't be drinking alone.

After this push is over, you can have next weekend off and I will promise you beautiful weather. How's that.

Hi Folks! It's been a long time. I've been stupidly busy at work, and progress on the house ground to a halt.

My plans for the bathroom changed when a friend of mine spotted a Ming Green Art Deco sink and toilet in a local architectural salvage place. Usually, they are also selling the massive Deco tubs that would never fit into our microscopic bathroom. Today, we took out our old cracked sink, and (maybe) solved the mystery of why the medicine cabinet was centered on the wall, but sink was installed off-center. It seems that there aren't any wooden studs behind the center of the wall, so there's nothing to support the weight of the sink. What a nightmare.

The sink looks a bit drunk, doesn't it?

See where the sink used to be? There's wood behind that, but not where I need to screw the hanging plate for an actually centered sink.

(Doesn't the medicine cabinet look like a muppet?)

I've also been scraping the paint on the wall of the neighbors' garage that forms one of the walls of our tiny urban plot. We took down that was in front of this wall, and now we've got the fun task of making this look less crappy.

I can only scrape for a few hours before my arm cramps.

Otherwise, I've been taking a lot of classes. Falconry. Cheese making. Fruit tree pruning. Various knitting classes.

Busy busy busy.
