Greetings From Scenic Oakland!

Post by lisascenic »

Hello folks!

My partner and I have a 1925 California bungalow, in a sweet modest neighborhood. We're in the process of slowly restoring our home, keeping it as period as possible.

We got about half of it painted this summer, which looks a bit odd, but is an improvement over how it had looked.

Here's how things look at the moment. Since we got the place, we had the floor refinished, patched and re-textured the ceilings, and repainted many of our rooms. Thankfully, we didn't have to strip our interior wood!

Our place is tiny and cozy, which is just right for us.

Welcome! That woodwork is beautiful. If only the POs of my house had similar tastes...

Welcome! Love the floors (I'm looking for flooring for my additin project so I'm on a floor kick at the moment). How wide are the planks?

Nice place! I love the built-ins (is that a writing desk I see on the left of the tree?)! Oakland is great.

If memory serves, your husband has some mobility issues. How do you handle the steps... or is there a back entrance?

You have a good memory. My partner broke his back, falling from a ladder, and is partially paralyzed.

We have a back entrance, with only three steps.

We have been gnawing on the problem of installing some kind of hand railing on the front steps, but have not been been hit with proper inspiration. Those steps are treacherous. But the irregular sides of the staircase present some design challenges.
