Well, crud..... We were all set to re-hang the cabinet doors, when realized how crappy our original hinges and screws were.

No point in continuing until we buy some non-stripped screws.

argh, painters--both professional and homeowners--often paint the window in a monolith fashion...all components should be painted separately then installed and that includes the stops....even after many coats of paint, the top sash can once again be made operable as lisascenic has so aptly demonstrated (small victories!!)...

it irks me to no end when contractors remove the weights and pulleys and spray foam insulation in the weight pocket...air can no longer circulate in the pocket and mold begins to form...true, the air in the pocket reflects outdoor temps but it is still air and should not be causing a draft on the inside...if there is a draft, air is coming in from the outside and should be addressed there...

i think these pulley covers do more for peace of mind than anything else but, hey, nothing wrong with that! http://www.conservationmart.com/p-275-a ... -pair.aspx

it is 20 degrees outdoors in western mass as we speak.....

I'm just flabbergasted at the idea of rendering the sash weight channel inoperable.

what often happens in the case of spray foamed insulated pockets is the weights and pulleys are discards and a vinyl sash track is installed...i have actually seen the pulleys remain in place but are smashed flat with a hammer! oy...
