Addition
Re: Addition
That shot is taken through the window in the upstairs of my garage. The pictures showing the porch side are taken from slightly uphill where I have a stake pounded into the ground in order to get consistent photos.

Re: Addition
Looking real nice. I did the same for the scaffold platforms. Ripped a sheet of plywood down the middle and a few 2x4's. The only problem is its too heavy to carry up high on the scaffold.
Anyways keep up the good work. That's quite a project.

Re: Addition
We've pretty much finished the exterior insulation and strapping, so we've moved onto the daunting challenge of trim work. Today we managed to assemble and install the window trim for four of the windows.
From the picture you can see the start of corner trim as well. It is 7" wide, and will follow the eaves/rake as well.
Pre-assembling was definitely the easiest way. I bought a pocket hole jig to screw the sides into the sill and header. I also made a template on a sheet of OSB which really cut down on measuring and squaring. I cut holes in the bottom so I could screw everything together.

I don't understand this step. I see stripes. That's all.
I will just watch the progress until we get back to what makes sense to me.
Good luck, and soldier on.

I think the "stripes" are what the siding will mount onto. I'm not positive about that, but that is my guess.
Re: Addition
We have been slowly working on the siding. Now that we are up past the windows it is going a lot faster. It's very tedious work; measure, cut, try to see it if fits, cut again, try again, paint ends, pre hammer nails, twiddle thumbs while paint dies, space and level, nail, repeat. The nails will bend if you look at them the wrong way, and sometimes the holes have to be pre drilled. The corner trim is really a bear to work with since it is almost the same size as a 2x8. We are doing everything we can do at ground level then moving up onto the staging.
All that said, I love the colour we picked and it is really quality stuff. I'll be excited to see an entire side of the house done.
