Re: Lime mortar

Hi folks - natural hydraulic lime is great. I've used that extensively and it works well. It dries partially through a chemical reaction and partially through the normal absorption of CO2. strength continues to develop over time.

I would say again to the person in ontario repointing their house - NO PORTLAND CEMENT! - NOT EVEN A LITTLE. IT COMPLETELY NEGATES THE PROPERITES OF THE LIME MORTAR THAT MAKE IT SUCH A BENEFICIAL PRODUCT.

Sorry for shouting, but people can't seem to let go of portland cement even though these buildings lastedd just fine without it for well over 200 years.

How many portland based concrete structures have lasted that long? - just sayin....
