My wife and I are looking at an old home purchase and noticed that essentially everything original is in the house (or outside the house) but just encased in 1950s updates. The original cedar shake is under the siding. And it looks like there is cedar shake under and old asphalt shingle roof.
My questions are many but a couple in particular:
Does that make a new roof more expensive to do?
Can the cedar shing roof be restored? I highly doubt it, lol.
What other considerations should we worry about it? I'd never seen an asphalt roof laid right on top of a cedar roof, so I'm in the dark here.
