darn it now I need an access hole for ankle grabbing ;-) maybe a machine to rattle chains would be fun, just a motor with a crank and a chain than rattles and a timer so it runs once every 30 seconds..
at least I won't fear Halloween so much. they are so wide you could get a bunch of kids on them at once and that's when those stringers definitely would have created an indecent. Like someone going ok every one on the stairs for a photo..

Wow!! I used to have a 1948 ranch with some sketchy basement stairs. A friend of mine was over once, who is as big as a house and just as solid, and he was climbing the stairs out of my basement when one of the steps fell thru. It seems that in 1948 it was ok to just sandwich the steps between the stringers and add some nails. I quickly rebuilt those death trap stairs!
