I was getting ready to redo the hardwood floors in our foyer, living room, and parlor and ran into something pretty nasty...
I assumed the hardwood was 3/4" over the 5/4" subfloor. Apparently the floors are just a thin wood veneer (5/16") over the subfloor. No tongue, no groove, and there's some movement in them in high traffic areas like the bottom of the stairs. There's quite a bit of cupping in areas too.
What do I do? Seems like I'll be hitting nail heads in no time if I sand the floors. Is replacement the only option? Should I just hand scrape and repoly and deal with the rough spots?
Thanks all for your input.
This one was face nailed since is was next to a radiator. They're mostly toenailed like regular hardwood would be.
