I believe thinking with tea is a crucial part of the process....and, having just spent two evenings stripping a door of its superglue paint, I know how hard that last 20% can be!

Re: Abandoning Old House Web...
I joined OHW in 2008 when I moved to my ramshackle Victorian in the country. I can tell you that
I have received some excellent advise and "hands on help" through the site. I do plan on " Stopping by" every so often. Its hard to give up your "First love". Even if it has been tainted in recent months.
Spammers such a waste of space :C. I don't visit OHW as much as I did back in 2008-2009 as this past year has been one of financial " belt tightening" since hubby was off work for four months. I can't wait to post pictures of my latest project...Kitchen which seems to have been in the planning for over a year now. Also a big hello to all the former OHWers.

Hi RosemaryT...Nice to see the pictures of the Sears Argyle house. Don't see to many of those Sears
kit homes here in Ontario. Or at least I haven't noticed any. But I was out west ( Saskatoon to be precise) about 5 years ago and went to visit a lady with a view to buying a horse. No deal on
the horse, to much money but we did spend about 3 hours tramping through her fantastic Sears kit home. She even told me the story of how it came to be on a farm just outside Saskatoon city limits.
It was very ornate. Two stories with a lot of trim, kind of Gothic. Sorry I can't remember the name, she did tell me.

Re: Abandoning Old House Web...
Lupinhouse, there are many catalogue homes on the prairies. Sears, Hudson Bay and even Timmothy E. sold them through the local hardware ar lumber yards. The kit would be orderd and then deliverd to the closest rail head to the home stead. From there it was up the home purchaser to pick it up or arrange delivery as well as the assembly. If you travel into the little towns all over the prairies you will find them.

It was very sad to read that Schag is ready to throw the towel in on the OHW the next time the spammers come in heavy.
