I have asked about this wayyy long time ago on the OHW. Figured I would see if anyone has any ideas. I did ask the long time owner's son who had no idea.
It is a capped drain. It is in the driveway near the back door.
No idea what it is and where it goes.
On the opposite side of the house there appears to be a remnant of an old septic system. So I am not sure if this was another one.... never had a house with a septic system and the house was put on city sewer back in the 1980's from what I was told.

Looks like a clean out for the main drain, Could also have a back up sewer valve under the cap. Just a guess.

I would also guess clean out.
It looks like you have a gutter that goes into a drain, so something to do with a french drain perhaps? The Cottage has a french drain that the gutters are tied to and we added some clean outs to it. Those are fairly shallow if you take off the caps.
We put in a couple (septic/sewer line) clean outs at the Cottage, and the Old House had one next to the house when we bought it. There are a couple at the Bungalow Project in the back yard. These are deeper when you take off the caps.

That totally makes sense! We do have a few gutters that drain into the ground.
I never thought about a clean out. Until I got this old house I knew zero about them..
still learning thanks to you all!!!

That cap looks plastic, which might put it at a similar age to the connection to municipal sewer?
