Restoring Original Porch Swing

Post by lionel762 »

We have been gifted the original porch swing for our 1914 prairie house. The family believes it is made from trees from our farm, possibly walnut. We would like to restore it and put it back on the front porch where it originally was located. Any advice on restoring it and protecting it from the elements?

Lionel, my first thought was teak, a very durable wood for out of doors furniture. I would suggest tongue oil, as much as it will take, then reapplication as needed. Should last a lifetime.
