Thanks, Manalto and Lily! I may have finally killed the paper wasps living on the porch last night after they went to sleep...I soaked their nest with poison and ran like heck...so I hope to install it soon!

I love it! Are you replacing the one in the second picture?

I finally found/bought an antique doorbell, for a good price, and it was local, too. The casting says it was patented 1899, and it still works perfectly:

Nice find, Willa! That's really beautiful.

This is what I did today. My last room's worth of plaster damage, and by far the worst.

I'm scraping paint again, but this time I know how to do it a little better. I got to the bottom of the wall and everything just crumbled. I have to take all the baseboard off, but considering how bad the plaster is, the baseboard isn't rotted like it was in the dining room. The backer boards are, however, so I'll have to replace them.

Yow ! That's an unfortunate development, but fixable.

Yeah, but the good news is, I don't have to scrape paint off that plaster!

 I have had moments like this, where what could be unhappy finding leads me to realize it might be a blessing in disguise.
