REM's early stuff is especially good. It's kinda punk/garagey.
Oh gosh, Bowie.... I cried for days after his death. It was just so staggering that such a creative force left this world.
Lately when I work on the house I like to do what I call Home Reno Disco. I pick the happiest electronic dance music and then I mix a small pitcher of Manhattans and rock out while I repair plaster. I'm a huge fan of The Hundred in the Hands' self titled album for this.
Also great for reno work is The Smiths and pretty much any electro-swing.
