Thank you for sharing this.

I recently discovered from the fourth-generation to live in my home that the kitchen floor, which is a pristine heart pine, was originally covered with an early linoleum. She told me she remembered pulling it up in the 1960s-1970s because it had faded a lot and she wanted to have wood floors.

I am very much interested in putting down a linoleum rug once I get around to the kitchen remodel, and have been at a loss for ideas of what patterns to use and be historically as accurate as possible. The linoleum did a wonderful job of protecting the original pine floor, and I wouldn't mind keeping it that way.

Southernlady, according to the article (dated 2007) no one was making new linoleum rugs at that time, that might have changed since then but suspect it will be a hard find. An alternative though would be printed floor cloths, that would also be more appropriate to your homes age. A quick Internet search found this site

I didn’t get to deep into the search on this company but it looks like stock patterns are available in different sizes and designs and the cost is reasonable in my view.
