covid affected real estate here. lots moved away fromt he city and sold houses then used the difference for retirement funds. many found they could work from home and then moved out of the city. the prices in the City still rose up a bit.
we had massive fires this summer in the interior so a lot of lumber was burned and I had a recent view as we drove through the area of one of the big fire areas just after a good rain. Now we have many acres of charred trees. several patches of about 50 x 100 mies or so. many were smoldering and burnign but the rains had obviously helped the situation. I wonder if some can still be cut or if the lumber is destroyed. It's basically just nature doing what nature does but the dryness was exceptional so the fires were also exceptional in size. Im sure that will have an effect upon lumber but as far as the forests are concerned, fire is less destructive than clearcutting. most of the forests that burned were pine and not fir because the fir tends to to grow more toward the ocean where rain is more common. forests infested with pine beetle were dead and those go up like kindling.
Lumber "shortage"
