Lily, what a spectacular home. To bad though the current historical society can not afford to keep it. The funds will help no drought the maintenance of the other three homes they own. I certainly hope it finds a suitable new caretake who appreciates the originality of the home. At $2.5 total with repairs I would think it a bargain for some wealthy NY’r with a desire to get out of the city. Not sure how far out of NY city it is but it can’t be a long commute.

That's a nice house. Hopefully it will go to someone who will appreciate it, but I'm skeptical.

If it went to a private owner, they would be taxed out of existence within a few years, even if money was no object. $48k a year in taxes is insane.

I hope I'm wrong, but given the North Jersey location, I could see it falling into the hands of a developer.

From the article, "The history center has not ruled out selling the Shultz House, on 30 North Mountain Avenue, to a developer, but is in talks with the National Trust about putting a preservation easement on the house to prevent its demolition. "We're moving forward at a very deliberate pace because we want to make sure we identify the best future for the house, and also consider the neighbors and community," Eliasof said."

Montclair is about 40 miles from the city.

Here's another link with some good photos:
