Well, I never ever thought I would be taking down walls to make it more open...but that's what we did yesterday! Before you cringe, let me explain..
We finally got settled in our new "old" house, a 1896 victorian, who has had some questionable rehabing done her over the years. My biggest gripe is someone walled over the pocket door from the parlor to the living room! Flat drywall on the living room side and they left the recessed archway and trim in the parlor. Thankfully someone was smart (or too lazy) and left 3 pocket doors in the garage. We hope that they are from the house and want to replace them to their rightful place!
So, we started banging holes in the drywall and it was a pretty simple take down!
Unfortunately, the original trim has been removed from the living room, but we hope to custom make it to match. And we have yet to remove the walling over the "pockets" but that is next!
We also can see that they stripped all the floors, as under where the framing, you can see the color/ slight height difference.
But, once again the two rooms have been reunited with each other! Ams it feels good to be restoring the house to how it was originally built!

Re: Making a more "open floorplan"
I must admit, your title made me a little nervous!
Glad you are able to get the house back to how it looked originally and that the original pocket doors were left behind. It's nice when someone's laziness actually ends up benefiting you down the road.
What make is your phonograph?

Now here's an "open floorplan" I can support. Looking forward to seeing the pocket doors.

It's a silver tone 1921... I could be wrong on the year. We took a gamble on it, as it was not working. Thankfully it was just a broken spring and my husband is very handy!! We listen to it often

I was thinking it looked like a Silvertone (the house brand of Sears). Glad you were able to get it working again. If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend installing fresh gaskets in the reproducer. Makes a lot of difference in the sound quality.

Oh! Cool thank you, I'll look into replacing it, I'm still learning alot about it. Thankfully it came with the original user manual, lol. The sound is ok at best. I figured it was just the old records I find at the thrift stores.
