Hi all. I am going to try to post some pictures of my little house.
The first one is what it looks like now...
Next is what she looked like after the 1917 tornado came through. They called them cyclones back in the day...
I have been accusing people who wrapped my home in vinyl of taking down the chimney on the west end. But on further exploration and excavation...
I hope everyone is having an exceptional day.

Re: Pictures of Home
Hello CP and welcome, thanks for posting pictures of your house. It's very nice that you have a historical image. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the place. I removed vinyl from my house last summer and it felt good - like removing a splinter!

Re: Pictures of Home
Thanks Manalto. I am waiting for next Spring to unwrap my house. Listening to my sister, a friend in Oregon, and "Renovating Old Houses" because I will need to do a lot of tuck pointing. So I'm listening...sort of...
I just had to see a little bit. And get some idea of what size windows I will be looking for. This the backside.

It will look a thousand times better when it's brick. I appreciate your curiosity in peeling off the siding. I know I couldn't resist. What would be the authentic style for windows for an 1832 house?
It's nice that you don't have any landscaping to obstruct your work on the house and can get at it from all angles.
We love photos here so keep 'em comin.

The originals probably would have been 6 over 6. The 2 over 2 in the tornado picture were probably installed in the 1880-1900 timeframe.
Re: Pictures of Home
I knew the two over two windows were Victorian-era replacements but wasn't sure what configuration would have been originally installed in that early 19th century house in that location. (We don't know the location, do we?) I thought it could also be 12 / 12 or even 8/8.

Re: Pictures of Home
Could have been 8/8, 9/9, or 12/12 - both of these were still in use in the 1830s, but 6/6 was the most common. If the original openings are really large, there's a decent chance it could have had more lights.
I'm just glad the OP was able to look at it and see what lay underneath that vinyl and aluminum mess.

Hi guys,
1918 Colonial you are right. The originals would have been six over six. There are two houses similar ro mine in town and a bunch down by the Ohio River with the 6/6 (I live in Southern Indiana).
Manalto, the abstract on my property says the house was built in 1853 not 1832 as I had been told originally. 21 years newer than I thought. Oh well. Still a Central Passage but now with Greek Revival tendencies.

It's so cute! I often feel like my little house is so "Plain Jane" compared to the other grand dames on this site, and it's very nice to see another old house that is a special little home.
I'm so glad that you're doing her justice.

Very cute indeed! Looking forward to seeing your progress. We're about old homes here, not just grand homes.
