Jade, the painter in the back ground painting every thing white. Those gender specific roles past into history years ago.

If you look through the archive, there's plenty of illustrations referencing home improvement. An illustrator's eye for a certain kind of (white) North American experience - but also some awkward racism in some of the paintings I didn't post. Defintely a product of his time. His illustrations are a slice of life, sort of. Modest kitchens, dirty dishes and other ordinary details prevail.

What is it that we're supposed to hate? Should we be outraged, too?
I'll leave that to those who are more willing to rise to the bait.

I don't get it either. These evoke a Norman Rockwell feel of Americana.

interesting that even in the kitchen they didn't have an outlet yet so they wired into the lamps as was common at one point.

I heard that electricity back then was free for lights but for appliances it cost money, that's why they started making those screw socket to outlet adapters then when that caught on too well they stopped giving free lighting electricity.

you can see this picture of a lady plugging her radio into the light socket. this radio was fitted with a cord end that looked like a light bulb thread. about 1924

Folks, the only reason I posted the link was the painter painting another coat of white paint. The same white paint many of us are scraping now. No social outrage intended.
But I do like that it created some conversation about the detailing of the images. Has any one noticed the egg about to roll off the table in the painter pic yet. Now that’s a bit of genius illustrating.
