This big (28" tall, 13" wide) lamp has come into my possession and I'm not sure what to make of it. The decoration on the shade and base is some kind of brass-colored metal applied to the surface of the glass. Judging by the way it's made, I doubt it's any older than the 1960s. I suppose it would go in a parlor or bedroom. Victorian-inspired, I guess. Target practice?

Late 60’s early 70’s. There was a bit of colonial revival going on. Think goldy brown chesterfields with either large flowery or wagon wheel patterns.

I'd like it better if there were also a light in the base.

A little bit of an upscale lamp.
Manalto, I see the clematis now that you’ve mentioned it (and posted a pic). Six petals. Nice plant when in flower, ugly as hell after. Got to give it credit though, stuff grows we’re nothing else does. Thrives in neglected gravel.

Whoa - that IS clematis ! I even have one that came with the house. (shaking my head at myself)
Re: Information on this Lamp?
Of the large-flowered clematis, the purple one ('Jackmanii') does best around here (Zone 6). The small-flowered C. montana (spring) and C. terniflora (Sweet Autumn Clematis), both have a pleasant fragrance but can get away from you if you don't hack them back.

I think Gothic is spot on with a date. To my eye it's styled to look somewhat like late nineteenth, early twentieth century, but was never a kerosene lamp
