Oh wow!!!!!! What a place!!!!
And for $799,000? Even with the US-CAN exchange rate, that is a steal!! Here you get a 2000 sq ft house on a tiny lot for that! Maybe I'll ask my husband if he wants to extend his commute to work... heh heh heh!!
Thanks for sharing!

In the comments it mentions that taxes are $ 35,000 - 66,000/year, so that is a consideration. I think the lot is the size of an entire city block.
In comparison to GTA prices this is incomprehensible.
The house - all 14,000 square feet of it - looks like it is in immaculate condition. And you get the gardener's house, too.
Did you notice the small cage elevator, by the front stairs, that appears to be upholstered in red velvet ?

It sure is swoon-worthy. Interesting that they call it Italian Renaissance; I see evidence in the interior details, but the outside, to my amateur eye, looks Colonial Revival.

Ok, well that makes much more sense then. Those taxes are extreme!
I did notice the red velvet elevator! What a "statement"!
Also, in one of the carpeted rooms, there appears to be a sizeable reddish-brown stain... maybe a murder house? I'm surprised the carpet wasn't swapped, or at least a good stain remover used!

This property has a curious price and tax history, per Zillow.
1995 Sold @ $490,000
2002 Sold @ $600,000; Tax $12,909
Taxes rose from $12,909 in 2002 to $21,617 by 2006 to $102,857 by 2011 and then dropping to $66,411 by 2016
2015 Listed @ $1,595,000 but didn't sell again until...
March 2017 @ $633,334 and quickly put back on the market...
June 2017 @ $799,900.

Yes, that is odd, with some pretty extreme fluctuations. I have no clue how Cleveland's property tax is structured, but it would seem whoever bought it in 2016 is hoping to make at least $ 170,000 by doing nothing except selling. This is good in its own way, given that the only negative re-modelling seems to be broadloom carpet.
JJ: I overlooked that stain ! In the comments on OHD there was a lot of discussion. Someone mentioned the decorative grilles on the ground floor windows, and someone else remarked that given the size of the property it would be completely possible that a person could break in and steal whatever they could carry, without this being noticed for days. The author was probably imagining living alone in that house v.s. a rich person with a small army of staff, however ?

Funny you should mention "staff". That's the first thing my wife said when I showed the listing to her..."You'd need a staff just to keep it clean." Our leaf blower can be used as a vacuum, too, so I'd just go through with that! Vrrmmmm!
I love the design and etc. but I'm just not a "marble bathroom" kind of guy. To me, the rooms in this house look a bit too much like a train station waiting room.

Re: Fantastic 1920's Cleveland Mansion for Sale
Typically whoever built a house like this had a domestic staff, as it would be a full time job for one or two people just to keep it clean. In a house like this, there were usually at least 4-5 maids and maybe a full-time cook and groundskeeper.
It's a beautiful house that seems to be well preserved. The only thing that would concern me is the tax history, as others have pointed out. I guess the city figures if you can afford to own and maintain a Great Gatsby era house, you can afford whatever exorbitant tax they want to charge that year.
The base styling is Georgian Colonial Revival, but the center of the house is Greek Revival, so it's really a blend.
