I looked up the patent number from the bottom of the ad it is 1582470
"neutralized amplifier system"
that's an early circuit, around 1927 I guess. Il find out more when I search the schematic. Im thinking maybe it was a battery set and the cabinet might have contained the batteries. The ad suggests the changing technology replacing old with new and this would have been about the time that most radios were switching over to AC power from batteries, so it likely would have become obsolete quickly with plug in radios quickly to become favored over the older battery sets.
