Two new chair finds!

A friend and I teamed up to have a plant and garage sale. She had a couple of things I couldn't pass up.
A very heavy and well made 1860's Empire chair







And an Aesthetic Movement chair.



Only $50 for the pair! lol!

You did well. I like them both, for different reasons. That Aesthetic Movement chair is a curiosity.

Corcetiere, I like both, but my favourite would be the Eastlake.

I had a party at the house recently and that illustrated the benefits of having many chairs (that were not ugly folding chairs). So I basically have a very good excuse to buy single beautiful chairs now. lol!

They're both charming aren't they?! Both pretty useable as is, though will benefit from some new upholstery fabric.

the construction of that rolled back is interesting. It must be veneer or the end grain would show. Back then they used thicker veneers I think. the feet seem to date it older than most veneered furniture not that it ever was really a new invention. It just got used a lot towards the 40's with the waterfall style.
