A ride for one or two, and a more modest but nice house in the background.

What was her story ?

The bike is a saddle seat, only one rider. Her jacket fits her so I would think the bike is hers. A radical woman of the mid 50’s I would think. And she’s married. I don’t think it’s a Harley.
A nice middle class late Victorian.

Yes I noticed the fit of her jacket, too. She's posing as those aren't riding footwear. Who was this lone wolf ?

The ring might be a decoy to keep the pesky fellas away.

I like to imagine she's a young librarian, with lots of interesting ideas.

I just reread "Foxfire" by Joyce Carol Oates, and she could be one of the characters, a few years out of teenagehood.

The bike looks like a heavily customized late '30s/early '40s Harley Davidson.

Based on her hairstyle, I'd say it was taken between 1948 and 1952. Right around the time when outlaw biker clubs were starting to spread across the US.

She's someone's out-of-focus fantasy.

Colonial, I see what you mean with the Andrew sisters style quaff. And your read on the bike is correct A 1940 Harley
