Mick, I think I would be tempted to put in the best parlour with all the other well made furniture. With the lip up of course.

Keep an eye out for 1870s-era chests and trunks at flea markets and estate sales. If you're going to find another lock like the original, you'll probably have to get it off another piece of the same era.
