The Collyer Brothers w/Photos

Post by Willa »

The Collyer brothers were the first widely publicized hoarders (c 1947). They lived in a large Harlem brownstone, that had been without electricity or running water for decades. Their case is widely referred to, but I had never seen photos before. There are glimpses of the previous splendour of the residence, then the hoard that in some rooms was about three feet shy of the (high)ceiling.

I know - it looked like an amazing mansion plus decades of hoarding logic. I looked through all the pics open mouthed fantasizing about what else was buried in the original layers.
