I feel slightly guilty about how little I paid for it.
I was hoping for Renaissance Revival but sometimes a deal is too good to pass up and you can be flexible on the the style...

Nice score! Your flexibility has served you well; the arrangement of harmonious pieces will work out. Do you think the wood is walnut?

Absolutely gorgeous! Congrats! Anytime you start feeling 'guilty', think back to the dry spells

Thanks! I assumed Mahogany?! But I am not sure, it doesn't really look like rosewood....
It is heavier than it looks!

That's some fancypants seating, all right !

The upholstery looks like it is in perfect condition, and expertly done. So...how much was it ? I mean your $ 15.00 chair seemed like the limit of reasonable possibility but...???

lol! $100! Can you believe it! The couple was retiring and moving so they just need it gone. I'll probably eventually redo it in mohair, but you're right, it was well upholstered. I may only need to do button tufting and leave the seating structure alone. :)

That's a great deal, definitely too good to pass up.

Is the current upholstery silk ?

I've been searching for an antique settee/small sofa for months now. I have ideas about the style, and my criteria is that the structure and upholstery must be in good shape. It continues to evade me, though. I have seen a few that are "perfect", for under $ 400.00 CAN but 5 - 7 hours away = dealbreaker.

that's a real work of art. Imagine the skill it took to do those carvings. There aren't many who could do that now. that might actually be a pretty valuable piece, maybe Al could sound in with his expertise? I know it's what the market will bear and chairs aren't necessarily of much value just because they are old but this is a nice piece.
It might be worth an appraisal or a post on an antique furniture website?

my guess is walnut because the grain has some character and usually mahogany has a pretty consistent grain but I can't be sure, rosewood ? maybe ?
