1910 Small Town Restoration
1910 Small Town Restoration
I'm new to the forum, and am looking for any insight as to history and design style of our historic home. We started renovations about 6 months ago. We have completed most of the downstairs and are about to embark on the upstairs and exterior. We have saved anything that could be saved. An early 1960's remodel of the kitchen led to it being gutted. There are also two sets of huge pocket doors that I don't have pics up. I am also really interested in porch ideas, as we will be tackling that this summer. Thanks for your input!

Re: 1910 Small Town Restoration
You have a very nice house. It's a late Queen Anne style and I'd wager it's a little earlier than 1910. I'd say it's probably more like 1900. The styling reminds me of those that were in the Radford's plan books around the turn of the century.

Looks real nice! and welcome to the district! And I second that, based on the exterior pic I'd say closer to 1900.
What's the story behind the diagonal sheathing?

I'm not sure. Was diagonal sheathing common during that time? We plan to remove the aluminum siding very soon! The date of the house is definitely not certain. I do know the history of ownership, but haven't had a chance to review the deed for a more definite date of construction.
