Brand new (new to us!!) 1855 Texas plantation house

Post by cw3424 »

We have just purchased an 1855 Greek Revival home in Texas and are beginning the process of restoration. Over the next 10 years, more of less, we'd like to give it, and it's outbuildings, a new life with a new family. The house was built in 1855 as a dogtrot. One year later it was rolled down the hill, 3/4 of a mile, on cottonwood logs to it's current location. At that time they inclosed the dogtrot, added a second story and added rooms to the back. Sometime in the 1880's they added a dining room and a kitchen. The house had been in the same family until we bought it 6 weeks ago. We purchased the house with all it's contents. These past weeks have been spent sorting through closets and drawers, books, artwork, glass, silver and more. The outbuildings are full of old furniture and trunks, some of which we have not opened and probably haven't been opened in 100 years. We haven't even begun to tackle the basement. Friends joke that we should be on a tv show, or we should be committed to a mental institution. Sometimes I've questioned the latter myself. I am keeping a journal in the form of an unpublished blog, and have taken tons of photos and upload them to Instagram when I remember to do so. For some reason I cannot attach photos to this message though.

This sounds like a channel I should stay tuned to. Interesting! But - - - you know the rule: it never happened if there are no photos!

Welcome to the District. Buying an old home with antiques in one fell swoop. What a novel concept. Tell us more, oh and pictures, we love pictures here in the District. You can post pics rite from the computer. In the editor screen (long button below) scroll down to the options tab. Click attachments, it will ask you for a source, another click to were your pics are and just select your pics. It will load them up. You will need to place them into you text. By clicking the 'place on line button'.

I get an HTTP error message when I try to attach photos, and they won't "drop" when I drag them into this message box. They are JPG files. Maybe that's the problem?

Make sure you are using the "full editor" not the quick reply at the bottom of the threads when doing picture attachments through drag and drop. JPG files shoudl upload and display fine
