The Historic District

First of all I would like to say Hello. Long time reader of the fine site and first time poster. I kind of had to do it and now is a good time to start I guess.

A little about we got here. Me and my girlfriend bought it about 3 years ago. The house is located in Southwestern IL in the St. Louis metro area. It was designed by Marcel Boulicault and built originally for Robert Muckermann in 1937. It is a colonial revival. We are its 3rd owners. That's about all the history I have on the house currently.

The exterior of this beast is brick and slate roof. Poured concrete basement. A 3 bedroom and 3 1/2 bath monstrosity. Livable space is just shy of 3000 sq ft. It came with 2 out buildings, a 2 1/2 car garage and a chicken coop (no chickens currently allowed)and a small chuck of land just over an acre. When you come from cookie cutter land that is more then plenty for a comfortable lifestyle.
Most of the windows are original minus the 3 in the kitchen area. Unfortunately, most are painted shut currently. Only the bedrooms have operational windows.








The interior was in very good shape when we picked it up. The main floor and public rooms are all original wide plank oak hardwood. The private areas are all yellow pine hardwood. The bathroom sink and bath fixtures are all original. The toilets are all that were replaced. Woodwork and trim is all original. It comes with two fireplaces one on the main floor and one in the basement. The first floor has casement windows and the second floor is all sash minus the sleeping porch which is all casement.

For the past 3 years we have done many projects in and around the home. They also will be shared in the future. This wonderful place has kept me more then busy. I also have plenty of projects lined up for the future.

I hope this post at least satisfies for the time being. I will do a house tour at a later time. Feel free to ask questions and I will try my hardest to answer them in timely fashion.

You asked for them. Here they are more pictures. I will start with the basement and first floor. Second floor will be in a separate post.

Here's the basement. As far a homes go this one is on the unusual side. That being it is built like a vault. The coffered ceiling that you see in some of the pictures is actually concrete. Make any type of reno work a big pain in the u know what. Its about 8" thick reinforced with rebar. I know, I've rented a hammer drill with coring bits already. Not a fun thing to do. Also, if anyone notices I still have the original laundry sink





Now going up stairs to the main level. Starting with the kitchen then to the dining room followed by the living room and ending on the porch.

Now on to the second floor. Three bedrooms two baths and a sleeping porch.












I apologize for the stairway picture. I do not know why it is rotated like that.
I should note that these pictures are all from the viewings that we took. The spaces have changed some and I will eventually make a post of those.

If you load the pictures from a phone, there's been some folks who have had issues with the orientation. It has something to do with settings in their phones.

Is that a Florida room add on, or they enclosed a porch and it just has that vibe due to the windows? They look like louvers to me, but it might be etching or something.
