Re: Gothichome, the restoration of.

Some progress to report, almost finished replicating and replacing the missing cornice trim in the back parlor project. https://www.thehistoricdistrict.org/gallery/image/2623/source This took a lot longer than I was expecting, most of the time was waiting on plaster molding to dry. But progress is p...

James, that number is the design register. Used after 1884,by 1889 it required a country of origin,so you can date it to between 1885 and 1889. just looked up the number, if I am reading it correctly the number 90483 was used in 1888

Re: Thornewood Antics

James, this looks like a good place to use one of those stripper products you paint on and then cover with a film for a couple of days. Your .75 cent jug is beautiful, how come I can never find such a good deal. Does the bottom have a ‘made in England’ stamp on the bottom or just England? It would b...

Re: Gothichome, the restoration of.

James, I suspect the forced air was installed about 1962, that was the age of the old furnace I had replaced with new seven or eight years ago. Brick wall paper was all the rage in 62. We have purchased an antique mantle with cast iron fireplace front to go against this wall. I will once again adapt...

Re: Gothichome, the restoration of.

IMG_1347.jpeg More deconstruction, removed the horrid fake brick wallpaper. This is what we have. The room originally had a parlor stove, you can see the patch on the chimney. On the right you can see the run for the forced air heat to the bedroom above. Unfortunatly the ceiling molding had been br...

Re: Restoring Original Porch Swing

Lionel, my first thought was teak, a very durable wood for out of doors furniture. I would suggest tongue oil, as much as it will take, then reapplication as needed. Should last a lifetime.

First off this great Eastlake (bordering Gothic) stand for plants, lamps or what ever. This was the hight of Eastlake fashion and...
