Re: A question for GibsonGM or any one else
Gibson and all. The Emerald paint worked out great. I primed with SW’s general purpose primer and colour coated with two coats of Emerald. It laid down well and flattened out great. I found several peculiarities with the paint, despite what the promotional material says it will not cover in one coa...

Re: A question for GibsonGM or any one else
Seems like that's all you can do. Good luck! Let us know how the Emerald works out. I do think it is more flexible than most products; I think it has a good chance of holding up for you, and also will provide good color-fastness! As good as can be expected.

Re: A question for GibsonGM or any one else
I guess it depends on if you can either 'solve' the crack issue another way (filler of some type?) and then paint, or want to just get it done in one with paint. The high build isn't THAT thick if you apply it with a regular brush; to get noticeable fatness out of it, you have to SLATHER it on, like...

Re: A question for GibsonGM or any one else
Sorry I didn't see this til now, Gothic, been VERY busy. Sunday, and heading out to work shortly, ugh... I don't 'like' using high build primers...something about a thick coat that doesn't actually penetrate scares me a little. That said...yes, there is sometimes a need to do this. It won't fill as ...

Re: Sharpie on Lime Plaster help!!!
Spot prime and feather in, with a throwaway brush, using "B I N" alcohol-based white-pigmented shellac. Stir well. May take 5 or more coats to cover the ink; allow to dry about 30-45 minutes between coats (will be dry to touch). Keep brush in product can while waiting to dry or it'll get r...

Re: Turpentine alternative
IMO, mineral spirits stinks too, even the 'low odor' kind. And they're not the same stuff. Might not dry right with mineral spirits. If you want an old home, you have to put up with some things. Maybe she can go somewhere for a few days, or you can take her camping after you've applied your BLOP? Or...

Gina - yes, treat them the same. Best way to deal w/rags....just take an old pallet or something, lean it up against a tree in the shade, and DRAPE your rags over the top to dry. When dry, they are safe. They will only have the chance to ignite if balled up in a container. OR - take a 5 gal. bucket ...

Re: self leveling cement/epoxy?
I'm with 1918 on this. I'd use a non-degrading shim material (ie, plastic) to support as much of that side as possible, keep it set in about 1/4" from the edge, then caulk or use the abatron. Abatron would likely shrink less than caulking. If you use caulk, be sure to paint it - it turns brown ...

Re: turpentine
Gina - no lead paint?? Yes, that's what I meant by "duration is good on new construction", LOL. Some use it quite successfully, as your guy says. I avoid it, because 98% of my work is on OLD, and badly neglected homes. All lead, all alligatored and most need heavy scraping. I find if you t...

Re: turpentine
That longevity is awesome, Phil!! Believe it or not, the 'answer' now is to use...yes, Woodscapes or equiv acrylic stain. NOT paint. Paint is not the same anymore. The short answer (you like the long one, I know, but have to go to work!) is that stains penetrate wood a little better, don't make a la...
