Re: Name that portal!
I might have to try that! We have a large collection of minor and major squeaks, creaks, cracks and pops in our hallway floors. I don't mind a squeaky floor and it's almost a requirement of an old house, but in some places it's bad enough and loud enough that we have trouble moving around the house ...

Do we have to win the contest to find out what product from our medicine cabinet will stop our wood floors from squeaking? Because I could really use that info!

Re: Serious plaster repair
Eclecticcottage, it could just be my reading comprehension right now (my brain is a bit non-functioning this morning) but I think it may be a bit unclear exactly what you're asking in the thread and are proposing to do. You mentioned that you might be DIYing drywall installation but then mention a b...

Re: Eye Candy
Just absolutely amazing. I wouldn't want to have to keep it up either, but I guess if you can afford a house like that, you can probably afford to have someone else keep it up for you!

Re: Older homes and insulation
Gibson, thanks for the suggestions. I think it's definitely worth getting a humidity gauge or two. I have to admit, we tend to be pretty lax about humidity; we have humidifiers going in our two bedrooms at night this time of year because otherwise we get stuffy noses and sore throats the whole time ...

Re: Older homes and insulation
This is such an interesting question. We have a very similar arrangement with an attic space finished by a previous owner, except ours tends to be far too hot in the summer as well as in the winter (in the winter, we can just close the heating vents and the space becomes comfortable, but in the summ...
