Re: Villa Brugmansia

I told you I was jumping the gun. It's a no-go. The inspector found fungus on 75% of the floor joists, some minor, some severe. Apparently the air conditioner has been draining under the house, and some jamoke had filled in between the piers with cinder blocks, so there was no air circulation. It wo...

Villa Brugmansia

When I closed up the house in Connecticut, even though I got rid of a lot of belongings, I brought quite a bit with me. These are items that I may use, such as clothing or furniture, items that needed editing once restoration is complete, such as artwork, lamps, and kitchen utensils, and lots of res...

Re: Thornewood Antics

Yeah, Neighmond, stick around. Ron's getting tired of seeing nothing but my dumpy old house. Let's build this forum back up (I'm sure Phil will return). It was fun and useful not too long ago; it can be again.

Re: Thornewood Antics

On the south side of the house, there are four small windows: dining room and pantry on the first floor (stained glass), and bedroom and bath on the second. I had a feeling the bedroom window was in need of some serious help: 2596 The fire that damaged the sleeping porch and overhang cracked (I susp...

Re: What's happening in your garden?

The nursery puts three plants per pot. I presume that this is for more fullness. In any case, the nurseryman was very proud of his spacing, calling it "perfect." He said that since he's had them across the front of the office, his air conditioning bill is much less. 2594 They also sell crape myrtles...

Nice find, Ron. I've always liked that style of chair, and how interesting to be able to refer to them as "Victorian" in more than one sense. Will they need any repair or other attention?

Re: What's happening in your garden?

My dinner plate hibiscus are going full tilt, very showy flowers. I'd love to see photos of your hibiscus! Here at Thornewood, we've had some unruly behavior from the resident live oak. One thing that attracted me to this house in the first place was this massive tree that shaded the house for half...
