Re: Holy Toledo!

Can't wait to see pictures. I'm jealous of you having nearly all original windows. Our American Foursquare has only 7 left. I would love to meet the person that took out the original windows and put in the garbage windows we have now.... I'd have a few words for them...

Re: Opinions solicited

I would just note my recent use of pallman magic oil for the floors. Not suggesting better or worse than Rubio. Just another option. I think they are similar products - just something to look into.

Re: Interior - Painting Wood Around Windows - Caulk - Expansion

Really appreciate the helpful response. I have some of the backer rod - use it to go under our leaky doors! I didn't think about using it - I really appreciate the advice on this. I'll look first to see if there are opportunities to tighten up any trim boards. Then I'll look for the right caulk. Thi...

Re: Interior - Painting Wood Around Windows - Caulk - Expansion

Thank you for the thoughtful reply on this. I'm posting below some random pics (just have an initial coat of primer on). Sadly, these rooms have crappy replacement windows from before our time in the house. I should add, I'm not after perfection on anything - that wouldn't match with the rest of the...

Interior - Painting Wood Around Windows - Caulk - Expansion

We are painting the stained trim in our house (lost battle with family). I'm still in this one bedroom and working on the trim around the three windows (and soon the doors). I'm scuffing the finish, plan to prime (Zinner Oil-based cover stain) and then paint (BM). Question - do you normally caulk at...

Re: Advice on Matching Molding

I thought I'd share where I am in my venture to find matching molding. I'm sure of lot of what I've learned isn't news to most. But just in case.... i started out thinking I would go down to the big box store or maybe a more reputable lumber yard and just buy lengths of molding. I could have done th...

Re: Advice on Matching Molding

yeah - certainly in this area stuff that is "vintage" or "reclaimed" now has a nice price tag. I always wonder what parts of the country have places like second chance but with tons of stuff at reasonable prices. I'd probably make a drive just to visit an area like that (and prob...

Re: Thinning Sarco Type M

May i ask what you guys mean about a sander for setting glass? It sounds like you're not just talking about sanding wood to prep for priming / painting? Is there something more here? It's been a couple years since I restored three of our windows - with, as I recall, a lot of help from jade - and hav...
