Re: What I did at my house today...
In other news...pray for me. I am tackling the pocket doors. ugh! Haha - well at least the pocket doors are THERE - no chasing doors that are almost the right size with missing hardware. But the paint stripping misery - you have my sympathy. True. On one hand, it would speed up the abatement proces...

But - oops - I broke it Luckily I had been watching an antique towel bar that I previously could not justify as I did not need another one. ...

Have you decided we’re to mount them yet? Ok! I was thinking about using some electric tape. I’ll do that just to be safe...

Re: Replicating that dark shellac look
I second the recommendation for General Finishes Java stain and garnet shellac. That is what the top professional in my city uses when he restores Arts and Crafts furniture.

Re: What I did at my house today...
I rewired my sconces but have a question about the wiring for the lamp experts here. I replaced the sockets and wire. But the metal socket casings were different on both fixtures, one was narrow enough that I could not fit a cardboard insulator all the way down inside, so I just shoved it as far as ...

I love free stuff! I dumpster picked this giant vintage glass serving platter that was sitting just outside the dumpster directly behind my house! It's gorgeous and in perfect condition, so wonderful for the holidays!

Re: What I did at my house today...
You've got to tell yourself, "What are the chances I'll find another one closer to me?" Then the 3 hour drive (round trip) doesn't seem nearly as bad. I also like to use the drive time to develop a strategy for negotiating the price down, to offset the cost of gas and time. lol! True. It ...
